Cynthia Louise Astor, age 69, a New Milford resident for several decades, died on Thursday, May 12, at Danbury Hospital from renal failure due to complicati­ons of a kidney infection. Born to John and Patricia Cummings, on March 7, 1953 in New London, CT, Cynthia was known for imparting kind words, her infectious and warm smile, and lending a helping hand anywhere she found it lacking. To Cynthia, family was of the utmost importance and a constant source of happiness. She was considered by many as the neighborho­od mother and caregiver, especially to her children's friends who all called her “mom.” Ever the avid crafter, be it ceramics, crochet, quilting, over the years she displayed and oftentimes gifted her multitude of beautiful and unique creations to family and friends alike. Cynthia enjoyed adventurou­s day trips to the casino, Bingo with her best friend, the occasional fishing trip, and weekend outing at the races with friends. She also, at one time, belonged to a bowling league with her soulmate and spouse of 34 years, Jeffery Astor, until his untimely death in 2008. Beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmothe­r and friend, Cynthia Astor is survived by her mother: Patricia Cummings; her son James Cummings; daughters: Yvonne Astor and Jacqueline Herbest; five grandchild­ren, including a grandson Julian Astor Marques; four brothers, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A celebratio­n to honor Cynthia's life will be held at the V.F.W. Post Lounge, 11 Avery Rd. in New Milford on Sunday, May 22 from 1-5p.m. Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge St., New Milford is handling arrangemen­ts.
