DANBURY — Local boxing fans, get ready to sizzle.

Champs Boxing Club is set to host Summer Sizzler II, an amateur boxing event featuring many of the area’s best up-and-coming fighters, on Saturday at the Danbury War Memorial, beginning at 6 p.m.

Among those tentatively scheduled to be on the card are several members of the Champs Boxing Club amateur team, the CBC Wolfpack, including Fernely Feliz Jr., Ali Feliz, Edgardo Escribano, Armando Alba, Phil Serva and Cesar Collado. The Wolfpack is coached by Fernely Feliz Sr., Bennie Little, Dave McDonough, Simon Lavie, Mike Marshall, Omar Bordoy Jr. and Ryan Jowdy.

“Along with our fighters, there will be some really solid match-ups, nationally ranked guys, rematches of Golden Gloves finals,” said A.J. Galante, the co-founder of Champs in 2014. “People are really starting to take notice of what we’re doing here. This is definitely going to be a really fun show.”

This second installment of the Summer Sizzler will follow in the footsteps of the original Sizzler, a pro boxing event held two summers ago at the Danbury Ice Arena. Events such as these, along with a fresh crop of talented local boxers, have helped Danbury re-establish itself as a boxing hotbed.

“I have definite, big-time plans for boxing in Danbury,” Galante said. “Amateurs, pros, the gym, the youth program, everything. As far as the Summer Sizzler goes, I’m hoping to make it an annual summer tradition here in Danbury. It’s satisfying to see a lot of different things starting to take off now.”

Tickets for Saturday’s event are $20, or free with an active USA Boxing passbook. Weigh-ins are scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday, and doors will open at 5. Email CBCDanbury@gmail.com for details. The fight card is subject to change.
