Woman hurt in knife assault after collision
DANBURY — A woman sustained a serious eye injury after being stabbed on Thursday and had to undergo immediate surgery after a collision at a local gas station, according to Danbury police Detective Lt. Mark Williams.
Rosa Iris TolentinoReyes was charged with second-degree assault and breach of peace.
Danbury police officers responded to the Citgo gas station/Food Bag at 90 West St. on Thursday on a report of a crash with injuries. When the officers arrived, they found a woman inside the store with a stab or slash wound to her right eye, face and hand, according to Williams.
“The woman had been injured with a knife when attempting to thwart off a physical assault by another female,” Williams said. The suspect was later identified as Tolentino-Reyes.
Due to the extent of her injuries, the victim was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital for specialized care, Williams said.
“The eye injury was described as serious and will require immediate surgery,” he said.
Officers determined the victim was driving a car that accidentally hit another car in the gas pump area, William said. He said the victim moved her car away from the gas pumps and was approached by Tolentino-Reyes, a passenger of the vehicle that was hit, and assaulted.
“The investigation indicates that Reyes assaulted the other female as she was still seated in her stopped vehicle, with the door closed,” Williams said. “During the assault, Reyes caused the stab/slash wound to the other woman’s face and hand with a knife that was produced by the victim.”
Tolentino-Reyes is being held awaiting $25,000 bond.
