To build, or not to build, the Wall?
To build or not to build the wall — that is the question. Whether it is nobler in the minds of men to exclude those seeking freedom and opportunity from our country or to allow unconditional entry.
Should we spend billions of dollars constructing a wall that may (?) slow down illegal immigration, but certainly will not eliminate it completely. I strongly believe that building a wall is a waste of money. Even if a wall is built, it would have to be patrolled, which would create additional non-productive costs. Therefore, if the southern border requires surveillance simply increase the border patrol. It will support employment and be significantly more effective than a wall. However, before any such decision is made, a financial and social analysis should accompany the proposal and the people should be given a vote.
Further, the benefits that illegals receive requires additional study. They are coming to the U.S. because our benefits and opportunities are far greater than those in their own countries. We either have to increase our taxes to support these illegals or control immigration by eliminating the reasons illegals come, which could mean creating economic opportunities south of the border. In addition, a study should be conducted regarding the economic impact migrants have on our own workforce.
A wall will not solve the migration issues. Those wanting to come to the United States, for benefits or any other reason, will find ways around most all restrictions. Therefore, by eliminating benefits for those who are not entitled will eliminate a great number of illegals, in addition to reducing the cost of border security.
So, why is Trump so hell-bent on building a wall? Al Roznicki Newtown
