Clifford P. Schmeltz

Clifford P. Schmeltz, 89, of Danbury, husband of the late Mary (Durkin) Schmeltz, died on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at Danbury Hospital.

Mr. Schmeltz, a Danbury native, was born on February 8, 1929 to Clifford L. and Louise (Hubner) Schmeltz. He attended Danbury schools and graduated from Danbury High School.

He was a U.S. Army veteran having served during the Korean War.

A lifelong Danbury resident, Mr. Schmeltz retired from Walpole Fencing Company of Ridgefield, CT in 2008 after 32 years as one of their leading salesmen.

He and his late wife wintered for many years in New Port Richey, FL.

A NY Mets and Giants fan, he also enjoyed trips to the casinos, was involved in animal rescue programs, and volunteere­d at Danbury Animal Welfare Society (DAWS). Most importantl­y to Cliff though, was the time he shared with his family and friends.

Mr. Schmeltz was a member of St. Joseph Church of Danbury.

He is survived by two sons, Gary R. Schmeltz and Douglas P. Schmeltz and his wife Joanne, from his first marriage to Ethel (Lucsky) Schulz; a sister, Cathleen Fontaine and her husband Roland; a grandson, Jason M. Schmeltz and several nieces and nephews; and his beloved rescue dog Patrick.

In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Schmeltz was predecease­d by two brothers, Ronald and Jeffrey Schmeltz and his sister, Marilyn Bailey and her daughter, Susan Davidson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, Danbury.

Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury.

The family will receive friends in the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Ave., Danbury on Tuesday, January

29, 2019 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
