KEEP AN EYE ON

⏩ TOO MUCH REST AND RUST?: This is UConn’s first game in a week. In the Huskies’ prior two games with at least six days between contests, the Huskies shot 38.1 percent from the floor and a mere 22 percent (10-for-45) from 3-point land. They averaged 15 turnovers.

On Dec. 15, a week after their prior contest, the Huskies played one of their worst games of the season. They emerged with a 61-46 win over Manhattan at Gampel, but Hurley ripped the team afterwards — particularly the performance of Jalen Adams, who finished with just two points and took just two shots.

It was 11 days between games when UConn opened its AAC schedule at South Florida, and the Huskies blew a 13-point first-half lead and fell, 76-68, in what was also their first true road game of the season.

⏩ MCDUFFIE A PROBLEM: Wichita State’s only key holdover from last season is Markis McDuffie, a 6-8 senior forward who is tied for the AAC scoring lead at 19.2 points per game. “He’s a tough shot-maker,” said Hurley. “He’s got this unique ability to dribble right as a righty, and to step back (and make) long pull-ups and deep 3’s. He shoots and scores shots that are really hard to defend, because of the degree of difficulty. “When he gets the ball, he’s got to see a lot of white jerseys, a lot of early help. We’ve got to make his catches hard.” McDuffie played for Hurley’s father, Bob Sr., at St. Anthony High in New Jersey. He was teammates for one season with current Husky grad transfer Tarin Smith, who also played AAU ball with McDuffie.

“We grew up playing together,” said Smith. “It’ll be fun.”

⏩ INJURY UPDATE: Sid Wilson, who sat out Saturday’s win over Tulane with foot and thumb injuries, has practiced all week and will play on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Mamadou Diarra, whose season seemed to be over just a few weeks ago, is also available to play. Diarra has chronic knee problems and underwent surgery over the summer, but apparently wants to give it a go.

“He could see some time,” said Hurley .”He looked more comfortable, though not all way back in terms of how like to see him moving.”
