Giants sign WR Tate to replace Beckham

-

The Giants agreed to terms on Thursday with wide receiver Golden Tate, adding an accomplished veteran to try to fill the gaping hole left by Tuesday’s trade of Odell Beckham Jr.

The deal is a four-year, $37.5 million contract that includes $23 million fully guaranteed, per ESPN.

Tate, 30, won the Super Bowl with the Seattle Seahawks, and has played for the Detroit Lions and the Philadelphia Eagles.

Tate was traded to Philly at this past season’s deadline and made the gamewinning touchdown catch on fourth-and-goal for the Eagles in this past season’s wild-card playoff win in Chicago.

The signing is further proof that Dave Gettleman is still trying to win now and not fully committing to a rebuild. The Beckham trade was about getting him off the team and acquiring some assets in return.

Tate is 5-10, 197 pounds but stretches the field well.

BELL FEELS ‘AMAZING’ ABOUT JOINING JETS

Le’Veon Bell says he feels “amazing” about becoming a member of the New York Jets and looks forward to doing everything he can to make second-year quarterback Sam Darnold’s life easier on the field.

The former Pittsburgh Steelers star running back officially signed Thursday with the Jets after agreeing to terms early Wednesday morning.

The deal is for four years and $52.5 million, but some wondered if he might have made a mistake by sitting out all last season after declining an offer from the Steelers and then refusing to sign his $14.5 million franchise tender. He says during a conference call that he’s happy with his decision.

Bell says he grew up in a house of Steelers fans, but his favorite player was Jets running back Curtis Martin. He adds that the Jets were always in the back of his mind as free agency approached and he feels as though “the stars aligned” for him and his new team.
