Bobcats land 7-footer Pinkney

Quinnipiac has gone big with its latest commitment.

Seth Pinkney, a 7-foot center from Warminster, Pa., pledged to the Bobcats on Wednesday evening.

“Just the relationship I’ve had with Coach (Baker Dunleavy), he’s been with me since my final year as a high school player,” Pinkney said by phone. “I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do yet, and I decided to go to prep school for a year. He still recruited me. I just liked the connection we had.”

Pinkney played high school ball at Archbishop Wood Catholic with current Quinnipiac guard Tyree Pickron, then played a full postgraduate season at Montverde Academy in Florida.

Quinnipiac was one of the few schools recruiting him as a senior at Archbishop Wood Catholic, but he played AAU ball that summer and picked up an offer from Georgetown. Pinkney said Georgetown wanted him to prep for a year and work on his body and get stronger, and while he did so at Montverde, he decided he preferred Quinnipiac over the Hoyas.

Pinkney has known Dunleavy since Dunleavy was an assistant coach at Villanova.

“We are very excited to have Seth and his family join our program,” said Dunleavy, who just completed his second year at the Bobcats’ helm. “Seth has played for two high school powers — Archbishop Wood and Montverde Academy — as well as K Low Elite on the AAU Circuit, which has allowed him to compete against some of the top competition in the country. He is a hard-playing, team-first young man who will help us with his length and athletic ability right away. We can’t wait to get him on campus and get to work.”

Pinkney expects to enroll in summer session at Quinnipiac on May 19.

For the record, he is not related to former Villanova star Ed Pinckney (who, obviously, spells his name differently, anyway).
