Stop & Shop parent: strike cost at $100M
Stop & Shop parent Ahold Delhaize expects the
11-day strike by the United Food & Commercial Workers to cut its profits by between $90 million and
$110 million. Ahold Delhaize calculated the figure based on lost sales, perishable food that either went bad or was donated to food banks, and increased costs to staff stores and handle freight needs — the Teamsters union had its warehouse workers and drivers refuse to load trucks for deliveries. The strike ended Sunday, with five UFCW affiliates scheduling ratification votes.
