Barlow debate students win at competitions

Students on Joel Barlow High School’s debate team succeeded earlier this month at competitions.

Greg Coleman, junior co-captain on the team, won the second-place speaker award in the advanced division at the Hopkins parliamentary tournament on April 6.

The next day at the YaleOsterweis parliamentary open, Barlow freshman Ben Fligelman earned the second-place novice speaker medal. He and freshman first-timer Marissa Schrade went 4-1 for the day and won the second-place novice team award. Students had 10 minutes to build a new case for each round on a new, unannounced topic.
