You’ll notice a few changes to this newspaper’s website this week.

There are two main ways that we pay for the local journalism that keeps you informed about how local taxpayer dollars are spent, about threats to public safety, about our community’s problems and opportunities. One is advertising, in our print edition, and online, and the other is subscriptions.

We have been focused on building an audience online for all our readers in Connecticut, with no limitations, which means a heavy reliance on advertising. Even so, we want to keep improving your user experience.

So we’ve unveiled changes this week that clean up the overall appearance of our site, making for a lighter, easier reading experience when it comes to breaking news and routine local coverage.

But we also want to call out the important work and journalism we do — enterprise and investigative reporting, for example, and our lineup of local and statewide columnists such as Jeff Jacobs and Colin McEnroe.

That work will now appear on a premium “Insider” website experience. For a limited time, the only thing you’ll need to access those articles is to provide an email address. In turn, you’ll receive an email newsletter from us curating for you our best work each day, in that same premium website environment.

Soon, we’ll offer readers the opportunity for exclusive “Insider” access to our best work, and regular insight into how it all comes together, through a premium website experience subscription.

We’re investing heavily in more and stronger investigative and in-depth local and statewide reporting, and a lineup of writers who provide compelling insight and vital context to the problems and opportunities that our communities and Connecticut are facing. We’re inviting you along as partners in that effort, and this week’s changes mark the start of what we hope is a more comfortable and inviting experience for being part of it.
