VOLUNTEERS SPRUCE UP NONPROFITS

- Jperkins@newstimes.com

Volunteers spruced up area nonprofits and planted trees at an elementary school during a recent “Day of Service.”

The 38 employees from YardApes, Inc, a landscaping company that has been in New Milford for almost 30 years, rehabilitated a yurt at Pratt Nature Center, planted four new trees at Northville Elementary School, beautified Merryall Center for the Arts, re-seeded and removed invasive vines at Clover Ridge Animal Sanctuary, and cleaned the area surrounding the Tunnel Road portion of Steep Rock Association in Washington.

The event, held late last month, is part of the company’s biannual tradition to perform several hours of property maintenance and landscaping services to nonprofit organizations and schools in the area.

“Serving the community in this way is personally and professionally gratifying,” YardApes owner Shayne Newman said in a press release. “The employees and the volunteers who donate their time to step up and help are deeply appreciated. I look forward to both service days each year because they are opportunities to come together as a group, enjoy the great outdoors, and simply do something good for several nonprofits in our area.”
