Danbury girls shine at Invite

MIDDLETOWN — The Danbury girls track team scored several impressive performanc­es at the Middletown Invite last weekend as the 4x400 team won the event and the 4x100 team took second on Saturday.

Meilee Kry — who took fifth in the pole vault — Daniella Grullon-Pena, Natalee Seipio and Alanna Smith won the 4x400 in 3:58.07, more than 10 seconds ahead of second-placed Hillhouse. Seipio, Shanell Stewart, Jessica Glowacki and Guilana Robles was less than a second off the meet-record time of winning squad Windsor in the 4x100.

Smith claimed second in the 400 while Immaculate’s Taylor Mascatta won the

1,600 (5:04.41). Teammate Angela Saidman (10:58.25) won the 3,200 ahead of Bethel’s Ava Graham

(11:00.17). Immaculate’s quartet of Saidman, Ailene Doherty, Molly Coyle and Mascetta won the 4x800 with a time of 9:27.73, six seconds ahead of second-placed Greenwich. Danbury was fifth in the event.

Members of the Danbury boys team spent the weekend at the St. Anthony’s Invite on Long Island, where Malcolm Going finished fourth in the 800 (1:52.28). Jaden Cazorla finished seventh in the 100 (11.60).
