23: Points by CCSU’s Kevorni Welsh at NEC championsh­ips as he won the long jump and high jump to go with a sixth-place finish in the triple jump. Teammate Richard Grudzwick won the 800 while Sacred Heart’s Christian Turner (shot put) and Cameron Croce (hammer) also won individual events.

25: Strikeouts by SCSU pitcher Ronnie Rossomando in his last three starts, posting an 0.42 ERA to key the Owls’ late-season push to qualify for the NE-10 tournament.

77: Hits by Wallingfor­d’s Jack Gethings this season, tying the Fairfield baseball program’s single-season mark.

95: Points this season for Coast Guard’s Riley McNulty including 8 in the NEWMAC men’s lacrosse championsh­ip game.

118: Points for Central Connecticu­t State women’s track field as Blue Devils won their first NEC title with Sacred Heart and Saint Francis finishing within two points of winning the title. Dawn Hubbell and Megan Brawner won the 5,000 and

1,500 meter races while Sacred Heart’s Emma Cary

(10,000) and Jacqueline Thorne (3000 steeplecha­se).

Men’s lacrosse, Georgetown at Yale, Saturday, 2:30 p.m.: Yale opens defense of its national champion by hosting Georgetown in the first round. Twin brothers will be squaring off as Yale freshman Matt Brandau has 35 points and 52 points while Georgetown goalie Chris Brandau is 8-1 with a 6.89 goals against average.

Track, New England Championsh­ips, FridaySatu­rday: Fresh off winning the Northeast-10 men’s title for third straight season, SCSU will host the New Englands. Kade Amster won the hammer throw while the Owls set the NE-10 record in the 4x100 relay. The SCSU women won the same two events including Erin McKee besting the field in the hammer by nearly two meters.

HOMETOWN FOCUS

Chris Simione, Cheshire: Bentley senior is top scorer on team competing in the NCAA Division II regional. He has plenty of company of golfers expected to take part in Division II regionals as IUP features South Windsor’s Jack Buccigross, Vernon’s Liam Donohue is one of Franklin Pierce’s top scorers, Wethersfie­ld’s Andrew Sanzaro is second on Assumption with a 77.5 scoring average and New Milford’s Tyler Lanza is one of five Concordia golfers with a season average in the 70s.
