MOTORCYLIST SERIOUSLY INJURED
A motorcyclist was seriously injured Saturday evening in a crash that shut down a section of Route 53 for about three hours.
The motorcycle was heading northbound on Route 53 just before 5:40 p.m. when the driver crashed between Route 107 and Newtown Turnpike, Redding police said on Facebook.
The motorcyclist was sent to Danbury Hospital to be treated for serious injuries, according to police.
Police did not provide details on what led up to the crash, but said the motorcycle was the only vehicle involved.
Police closed Route 53 between Redding Road and Newtown Turnpike until just before 9 p.m. As investigators worked the scene, police asked drivers passing through the area to seek alternate routes.
