Police caught a Danbury man accused of attacking another man in a Newtown shopping center last month.

Newtown police, with the help of Danbury police, arrested Destin Jackson, 20, early Saturday morning.

Jackson is accused of trying to rob a man walking through a parking lot of a South Main Street shopping center on April 6, according to Newtown police.

After the victim refused to give Jackson his car keys, Jackson “viciously attacked” the man, using his hands and feet to hit the victim several times on the head and rest of the body, police said. Jackson also kicked the victim while he was on the ground, according to police.

The victim was treated at the hospital for his injuries, police said.

“Our officers, with officers from the Danbury Police Department, did a great job putting this case together,” Lt. Aaron Bahamonde said in a press release. “Utilizing the pieces of evidence, they worked together, to help identify and arrest a suspect that committed this vicious criminal attack. We are very happy that justice can be served, for the victim and the community and that this very dangerous individual is off the streets.”

Jackson was charged with robbery in the first degree and assault in the second degree. He was held on a $100,000 bond.
