Three ambassador scouts from Girl Scout Troop
50897 were recently honored at a ceremony at the the Jason D. Lewis Brookfield Memorial VFW Post.
The scouts, Grace Collins, Reese Reiling and Allison Quinn, were recognized as part of the VFWs Scout of the Year Scholarship Program.
Collins earned the Scout of the Year award, receiving a scholarship of $150. She will compete at the state level and if successful will move onto the national level, where she could earn a further scholarship up to
$5,000 as the National Scout of the Year.
Reiling and Quinn were also recognized with Certificates of Appreciation for their volunteerism and service to their peers and community. Each was awarded a scholarship of
$100 from the post.
The girls earned their Gold Award, which is the highest honor a Girl Scout can receive.
For her project, Collins held programs at the schools to raise awareness for mental health. One mother said it saved her son’s life who was contemplating suicide.
Quinn led a successful recruiting campaign for the high school marching band. Meanwhile, Reiling organized blood drives, as well as programs to help people become CPR and AED certified.
