Holocaust survivors recognized
More than 100 people attended a recent program at JCC Sherman to hear how a local man survived the Holocaust.
In a video interview, Maks Etingin shared how he and his family spent 10 1/2 months in a hole and how a Christian neighbor helped the family survive the mass killings in their hometown of Vilna, Poland.
Sherman First Selectman Don Lowe proclaimed May 1 Holocaust Remembrance Day in the town and recognized Etingin, Susi Leiter, and David Marks—Holocaust survivors from Sherman and New Milford who founded JCC Sherman.
