Church helps flooding victims

-

Calvary Southbury, a nondenominational church, is offering assistance and resources to victims from Mozambique and Malawi after weeks of flooding and storms.

Both countries have been ravaged by intense flooding and a cyclone that struck last month.

The church plans to supply the displaced people of Malawi and the refugees of Mozambique with fresh water and food. Church members will drill two mechanical wells with a hand pump, located in camps. Sanitation will also be provided through pit toilets.

Calvary also purchased and distributed food for a Mozambique refugee center where 750 families are located. These families had not eaten in over a week.

The church’s goal is to start with helping 18,000 people.

Calvary Southbury is a registered non-government organization in Malawi, operating under the name “Love in Action.” The church’s involvement in communities in Malawi began in 2005. Love in Action runs two feeding centers, one in Malawi and one in Mozambique, and feeds over 265 orphans and aged people a day.

Love in Action also assists with farm projects and food distributions, trains leaders, and establishes fresh water wells. The organization is run by nationals in Malawi, and Calvary plays a supporting role.
