Carraturo’s 3-hitter lifts Bethel to win

Jack Carraturo tossed a complete-game three-hitter let the Bethel baseball team to a 2-1 win over Brookfield. He struck out nine batters as the playoff-bound Wildcats improved to 14-5 with one game remaining.

The Danbury boys and girls outdoor track teams wrapped up undefeated regular seasons Tuesday as both teams defeated Ridgefield. The boys earned a 75-71 win by prevailing in the final contest, the 4x400 relay, while the girls won 98-47.

The Hatters boys won all three relays to prevail while Devean Smith (24.53) won the 200. Eric Civitella won the 3,200 (10:49.11) for Danbury while Johanse Martinez won the 110 hurdles. Xavier Bryan won the triple jump (39-02.25) and was the lone high jump competitor. Ridgefield senior Liam Byrne won three events in the meet, taking the discus (128-00), shot put (40-03.00) and javelin (136-01).

On the girls side Alanna Smith won thee events as well: She ran a 58.21 to win the 400 and won the 100 in 12.61 while taking the 200 in 26.07. Emily Souza took the long jump (15-04.50) while Hennesy Ricoo won the triple jump (33-02.00). Maria DeSouza was tops in the high jump and the pole vault (8-00) while Tianna Rogers threw the javelin 66-09. Celia-Anna Chikeie won the shot put (32-10) while Alexis Chikezie won the discus (90-07). Hatters freshman Stephanie Quieroz won the 3,200.

New Fairfield turned in several top performanc­es at the Law freshman-sophomore invite over the weekend. Samantha Pomeroy won the hurdles in a time of 16.73, close to three seconds ahead of second. Patrick Gibbons continued his successful freshman season with a 4:43 in the 1,600. Ashley Hubert set a state qualifying time of 12:48 for 3,200 and a runner-up position.
