Car­raturo’s 3-hit­ter lifts Bethel to win

Jack Car­raturo tossed a com­plete-game three-hit­ter let the Bethel base­ball team to a 2-1 win over Brook­field. He struck out nine bat­ters as the play­off-bound Wild­cats im­proved to 14-5 with one game re­main­ing.

The Dan­bury boys and girls out­door track teams wrapped up un­de­feated reg­u­lar sea­sons Tues­day as both teams de­feated Ridgefield. The boys earned a 75-71 win by pre­vail­ing in the fi­nal con­test, the 4x400 re­lay, while the girls won 98-47.

The Hat­ters boys won all three re­lays to pre­vail while De­vean Smith (24.53) won the 200. Eric Civitella won the 3,200 (10:49.11) for Dan­bury while Jo­hanse Mar­tinez won the 110 hur­dles. Xavier Bryan won the triple jump (39-02.25) and was the lone high jump com­peti­tor. Ridgefield se­nior Liam Byrne won three events in the meet, tak­ing the dis­cus (128-00), shot put (40-03.00) and javelin (136-01).

On the girls side Alanna Smith won thee events as well: She ran a 58.21 to win the 400 and won the 100 in 12.61 while tak­ing the 200 in 26.07. Emily Souza took the long jump (15-04.50) while Hen­nesy Ri­coo won the triple jump (33-02.00). Maria DeSouza was tops in the high jump and the pole vault (8-00) while Tianna Rogers threw the javelin 66-09. Celia-Anna Chikeie won the shot put (32-10) while Alexis Chikezie won the dis­cus (90-07). Hat­ters fresh­man Stephanie Quieroz won the 3,200.

New Fair­field turned in sev­eral top per­for­mances at the Law fresh­man-sopho­more in­vite over the week­end. Sa­man­tha Pomeroy won the hur­dles in a time of 16.73, close to three sec­onds ahead of sec­ond. Patrick Gib­bons con­tin­ued his suc­cess­ful fresh­man sea­son with a 4:43 in the 1,600. Ash­ley Hu­bert set a state qual­i­fy­ing time of 12:48 for 3,200 and a run­ner-up po­si­tion.
