Bottled water not safe; plastic harms environment

The News-Times - - OPINION -

“Bottled water remains a safe, healthy option.” I was shocked at this opinion in Saturday’s newspaper because everything I have read or heard for some 10-plus years, states the opposite. The impact of plastic anything on humans, animals and the environment is great. Plastic micro particles have been found everywhere on earth and in the oceans.

Indeed, scientists have discussed clothing which is made of polyester and the like having a negative impact on the environment. We should be wearing natural fabrics, but barring that, recycle clothing we are not using. We should be promoting and using metal reusable bottles and reusable tote bags. Indeed, we should be recycling everything we can possibly recycle!

I will remind readers that the Forum opinion of May 11 was written by the President and CEO of the International Bottled Water Association.
