Tall­man earns spot in Trav­el­ers

Chris Tall­man birdied the first hole of a sud­den­death play­off to de­feat Kyle Bilodeau at the Spring PGA Stroke Play tour­na­ment Tues­day af­ter­noon at GreatHorse CC in Ham­p­den, Mas­sachusetts.

Tall­man, who plays out of Cold Spring CC in Belcher­town, Mas­sachusetts, shot a two-round to­tal of 1-over-par 145, ty­ing Bilodeau (GC of Avon). Both golfers shot 67 and 78 in each round.

The play­off win also gives Tall­man the Connecticu­t Sec­tion PGA’s ex­emp­tion into the Trav­el­ers Cham­pi­onship to be held June 20-23 at TPC River High­lands in Cromwell.

Bob Mucha (Edge­wood GC), Fran Mar­rello (Canaan CC) and Jor­dan Gosler (Twin Hills CC) all tied for third place at 4-over 148.


Richard Hayes (Sil­ver Spring CC) shot a fi­nal­round 71 to earn a one-shot vic­tory over Ben Con­roy (New Haven CC) in the 16th Rus­sell Palmer Cup at CC of Water­bury.

Hayes, who shared the first-round lead with Green­wich High se­nior Jack­son Fretty af­ter both shot 69, fol­lowed that up with a 76 to fall be­hind, then ral­lied for the win with a 54-hole to­tal of 9over 216.

Con­roy, the reign­ing State Am­a­teur cham­pion, held the lead dur­ing the fi­nal 36 holes Tues­day, but fin­ished at 10-over 217. Chan­dler Morris (CC of Water­bury) placed third at

218 and Chris Bennett (Madi­son CC) and Bill Her­man­son (Black Hall Club) tied for fourth at 219.

Fretty shot an 82 in the fi­nal round to fin­ish tied for

14th at 224.
