A fire that displaced a family of four from their Sunny Valley Road home last week started in a trash can — but the cause of the blaze has been ruled undetermined.

Firefighters responded to a fire at 77 Sunny Valley Road on May 13, and reported heavy smoke inside the 1,489square-foot home.

The Fire Marshal’s Office launched an investigation once the flames were knocked down, just after 9 p.m.

“The investigation has concluded, and the cause is undetermined [as] to what started the fire in the garbage can in the bedroom,” Fire Marshal Brian Ohmen said.

The four adults who lived in the house received assistance from the American Red Cross.
