5 PLAYERS TO WATCH

- Jane Charlton, New Canaan

The New Canaan junior midfielder is a weapon on both sides of the field. She’s one of the Rams’ top offensive weapons and has helped make the defense formidable as well. An All-State First Team selection as a sophomore, Charlton has committed to play at Duke.

Annie Eddy, Cheshire

A four-year star for the Rams, the senior attack passed the

200-goal milestone this season and has 212 goals and 77 assists in her career. The All-American has tied Cheshire’s single-season record for goals (89) and has helped Cheshire

(16-2) earn the No. 1 seed for the Class L tournament. She’ll be a key for the Rams as they attempt to break through for their first state championship.

Ashley Humphrey, Darien

The Blue Wave features many offensive weapons, and the All-American Humphrey, a junior, is the straw that stirs the drink on attack. The Stanford-commit is an assist machine and seems to be at her best in big games. In two wins over rival New Canaan, she had nine points on three goals and six assists, and also had five goals and three assists in Darien’s FCIAC semifinal victory over Wilton.

Rachel Mikolay, New Fairfield

Two-time defending Class S champion New Fairfield heads into state playoffs with a 17-1 record and the No. 1 seed. One of the Rebels’ biggest weapons is in the net, where senior goalie Rachel Mikolay is wrapping up a stellar career. The three-year starter was the MVP of the state final as a sophomore and has been on a hot streak of late, including an 11-save performance in the SWC final. She’ll play at Elon University in North Carolina next year.

Nicolette Spotlow, Guilford

Spotlow, a senior midfielder, has helped lead the Guilford Indians to one of the best seasons in program history, as they’ve gone 16-2 and are outright SCC champions for the first time. Spotlow set a school record with 69 goals last season, and is within striking distance of that mark with 56 goals this spring. For her career she has racked up 223 goals and 82 assists.
