DANBURY, FCIAC STRONG IN CLASS LL

Two-time defending Class LL champion Danbury, coming off a team title at the FCIAC championsh­ips, is the one to beat led by freshman sensation Alanna Smith who is the top seed in the 100, 200 and 400. Teammate Meilee Kry is the top seed in the triple jump and second seed in the long jump. Greenwich, Ridgefield and Fairfield Ludlowe are other teams with their share of standouts. Greenwich’s Mari Noble is the top seed in the 1600 and 3200 and Fairfield Ludlowe’s Tess Stapleton is the top seed in the 100 hurdles and third seed in the long jump. One of the top challenger­s for Smith will be Newtown’s Carly Swierbut coming off wins in the 100, 200 and 400 at the SouthWest Conference meet.

CLASS M IS WIDE OPEN

Defending champion Hillhouse has moved to MM, leaving Class M up for grabs with Berlin, Bethel, Weston and Bacon Academy qualifying enough depth to contend for the title. Weston, which won the team title at the SWC meet, is led be Shea Greene and Elise Russell in the field events. Greene, ranked No. 1 in New England in the javelin, is the top seed in the javelin and won the event at the SWC meet in a meet and league record 134 feet, 6 inches. Russell is the top seed in the pole vault and won the event at the SWC meet. Ava Graham leads Bethel as the top seed in the 1600 and 3200.

FIVE PLAYERS TO WATCH IN GIRLS OUTDOOR TRACK

Alanna Smith, Danbury: Freshman sensation Smith is embarking on an impressive high school career. At the CIAC Class LL meet, she is the top seed in 100, 200 and 400. She is coming off a three-win performanc­e at the FCIAC meet with victories in the 100

(12-17), 200 (25.02) and 400

(56.36).

Terry Miller, Bloomfield: In Class S she is the top seed in the 100 and 200. Last indoor season she won the 55 and

300 at the New England meet. In the 2018 outdoor season, she won the 200 and

100 at the New England meet, at the State Open she won the 200 and at Class M she won the 100, 200 and 400.

Leah Moore, Hillhouse: She is the top seed in the shot put and second seed in the discus. She comes off the SCC meet where she won the shot put (42-2.75) and the discus (113-2). She also won the shot put (41-6.5) at the Middletown Invitation­al. During the recent indoor season, at the National meet she was fourth in Emerging Elite division shot put (418.5). Last outdoor season she won the shot put at Class M and was third in the discus.

Shea Greene, Weston: Ranked No. 1 in New England in the javelin, she is the top seed in the event at Class M. She won the javelin at the SWC meet in a league and meet record 134 feet, 6 inches. And she is only a freshman.

Carly Swierbut, Newtown: She is coming off a three-win performanc­e at the SWC meet with wins in the 100

(12.20), 200 (25.37, meet record) and 400 (57.91). She is the second seed in the 100,

200 and 400 at Class LL setting up an exciting matchup in all three events with Danbury freshman standout Alanna Smith.
