QB Leon to transfer from NC State to UConn
There will be a new arm taking part in the competition to replace David Pindell as UConn’s starting quarterback.
Micah Leon is transferring in from NC State and will be immediately eligible since he was a non-scholarship player who did not see any game action. The
6-foot-5 Leon did play in the Wolfpack’s spring game, he was 5 for 10 for 46 yards and also ran three times for 17 yards.
Leon passed for 1,085 yards and 11 touchdowns as a senior at Boca Raton (Fla.) High School and also ran for
555 yards and 11 touchdowns.
UConn can only hope he makes as big of an impact as the last former NC State quarterback to suit up for the Huskies — Bryant Shirreffs ranks in the top four in UConn history in passing attempts and completions, passing yards, total offense and is second in passing efficiency.
The UConn quarterback position is wide open following Pindell’s departure. Marvin Washington and Steve Krajewski saw time at quarterback in spring practice, with Washington seeing the majority of snaps with the first-team offense. Washington was 9 of 24 for 147 yards with one touchdown pass and three interceptions in three games during the 2018 season as a redshirt freshman. He also had 12 of his 21 rushing yards against Memphis in his final appearance of the 2018 season.
Former West Florida quarterback Mike Beaudry is coming in as a graduate transfer and the Huskies also have incoming freshman Jack Zergiotis in addition to Leon, who is expected on campus next week when UConn players return to campus.
