Meet suspended until Thursday by rain
MIDDLETOWN — Jada Boyd of Hillhouse opened the CIAC Class MM girls outdoor track meet with a win in the 4x800 relay and closed the meet with a win in the 400 on Wednesday at Manchester High.
Prior to the 400, the clouds opened up and a constant downpour ensued, forcing the postponement of the remainder of the meet after the girls 400. Nine of the 18 events were completed in the boys meet and six girls events were completed. The meet will resume at 10 a.m. Thursday at Willow Brook Park in New Britain.
Boyd ran the last leg of the
4x800 relay that won in 9 minutes, 44.27 seconds. She pulled away the last 200 meters to win the 400 in
“I didn’t know how I’d do in the rain, so I decided to just go out and win,” Boyd said. “I made my move with about 200 meters to go and just kept going. It’s always great to win and contribute to the team.”
Erica Marriott of North Haven also came away with a win in the 100 in 12.45 seconds.
After six events, RHAM led the girls team standings with 40 points, with Hillhouse in second with 38. After nine events, Hillhouse led the boys standings with
35.5 points. Weston was second with 30 and Masuk third with 28.
In the boys meet, Deshaune Poole of Hillhouse won the 110 hurdles, Gary Moore Jr. of Hillhouse won the shot put (50 feet, 3 inches) and discus (133-4) and Neal Eley of Hillhouse won the 100
(10.91). Baruch Goodman of Weston won the 400 (49.80)
Moore won the shot put with a personal best throw.
