Melillo lifts Newtown past Naugatuck in Class LL baseball

NEWTOWN — Luke Melillo delivered the winning hit for the Newtown baseball team Thursday as his eighth inning RBI lifted the Nighthawks past Naugatuck 2-1 in eight innings.

Newtown reaches the Class LL quarterfinals for the second straight season, and will host Amity on Saturday for a spot in the semis. Melillo plated Brett Melchionno to deliver the walk-off win.

Josh Taylor threw a complete game four-hitter with six strikeouts.
