OLD EXPLOSIVE CLOSES TRANSFER STATION

The Newtown Transfer Station closed early Friday when staff found an undetonated, old military explosive around 1 p.m., First Selectman Daniel Rosenthal said.

Newtown Police investigated and called in the bomb squad. Authorities determined the device was inert and the incident was cleared around 3:30 p.m., Rosenthal said.

Rosenthal said the transfer station will be open for its regular hours Saturday.
