Baby powder maker hit with $300M verdict

A judge approved $300 million in punitive damages against Johnson & Johnson, after a woman who incurred cancer sued on claims baby powder sold by the company was the cause. Johnson & Johnson is appealing the jury verdict in New York state court, with the plaintiff having previously been awarded $25 million in compensato­ry damages. A South Carolina jury recently cleared the company of liability, with CNBC reporting that Johnson & Johnson faces more than 13,000 lawsuits related to its powder.
