Dangerfield, Westbrook recovering from surgeries
Guards Crystal Dangerfield and Evina Westbrook recently underwent surgeries and are expected to be ready for the start of the season, UConn announced Thursday.
Dangerfield had surgery on her left hip on May 30, while Westbrook had a procedure on her left knee on Tuesday. Both players are expected to fully return in four months — in time for the preseason opener against Division-II Trevecca Nazarene on Nov. 6.
Dangerfield heads into her senior year as the unquestioned leader of the
11-time national champions following the graduation of Napheesa Collier and Katie Lou Samuelson. The 5foot-5 point guard averaged
13.4 points and 5.9 assists last year while playing a team-high 34.9 minutes per game.
Westbrook, meanwhile, led Tennessee with 14.9 points and 5.3 assists per game. The 6-foot guard has applied for a waiver to be eligible to play this season after transferring last month.
UConn has 10 players under scholarship for next season, not including Westbrook. They’ve already added freshmen guards Aubrey Griffin and Ania Makurat, as well as former Murray State forward Evelyn Adebayo, a graduate transfer who will be immediately eligible.
