⏩ TRACK RESURFACING, OTHER PROJECTS APPROVED
Money was approved Tuesday evening to resurface the track at the high school, among other purchases.
The Board of Finance unanimously approved $135,000 to be used from the capital non-recurring account for the track project, according to the minutes for the meeting. The track must be resurfaced every eight to 10 years, officials have said.
School officials had originally hoped to resurface the track and install a turf field simultaneously, but the track is due to be upgraded immediately. It is possible to install a turf field later without damaging the new track, school officials have said.
Residents rejected plans to install turf last year, so the Bethel All Sports Booster Club is raising money for the project. Club members have said the town will likely need to commit some money for turf.
The finance board also approved nearly $181,000 for a Class 8 truck, $28,400 for a Ventrac mower and $69,040 for equipment for the Stony Hill Fire Department.
The funding comes from the capital non-recurring account, which voters approve annually as part of the budget process. The selectmen and finance boards then vote on which projects to complete with that money.
