Brady, Bundchen to Greenwich?

- By Robert Marchant

GREENWICH — As reports about the househunting expeditions by Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen continue to draw speculation, Brady is keeping mum on his plans to buy a home in Greenwich.

Brady, the quarterback of the New England Patriots, was asked by the Boston media this week if he was buying a house in backcountry Greenwich, as a realestate and celebrity site and other outlets had reported. But Brady was noncommital about any new purchases.

“It’s hard to respond to everything,” Brady said, according to NBC Sports Boston, quoting an appearance by the star quarterback on WEEI radio’s “Greg Hill Show.”

“The reality is, I choose to respond to almost nothing,”

Brady said on the air. “I just don’t get into the fray.”

Media reports and chatter in the realestate community said Brady and Bundchen were looking at properties in Greenwich and Alpine, N.J., this summer. The couple have a home in lower Manhattan and recently put their Bostonarea residence up for sale.

But the Greenwich house named in the most recent reports has not been purchased. Ashley Murphy, a spokeswoman for listing agent Compass Connecticut, sent out word this week that Brady and Bündchen are not purchasing the estate on Lower Cross Road that has been widely circulated as the couple’s new home. The estate has been has been under contract since May.

At Town Hall, there have been no landtransfer records indicating a purchase of the Lower Cross Road site, and nothing with Brady’s name attached.

Brady, who continues to redefine what is considered possible as players age in the National Football League, signed a contract extension with the Patriots in August that runs through the 2021 season — when he’d be 44.

If Brady and Bundchen do wind up in Greenwich, they will find themselves in familiar company. The town has been the home base to legions of sports, film and media celebrities through the years, thanks to its proximity to New York City and sense of privacy.

Among the list of celebrity athletes who have made Greenwich their home are Frank Gifford (New York Giants); Tom Seaver, Lee Mazzilli and

Craig Swan (New York Mets); Mark Messier, Mike Richter and Martin St. Louis (New York Rangers); Mark Texeira (New York Yankees); and Allen

Huston (New York Knicks). Others were born and raised here, including Tim Teufel, Steve Young, Dorothy Hamill and Sue Merz.
