Source: Fairfield assistant Sellers is expected to be named CCSU coach
Patrick Sellers is expected to be named men’s basketball coach at Central Connecticut, according to a source.
Sellers, currently a Fairfield assistant under Jay Young, is a 1991 Central graduate.
He was an assistant at his alma mater in 1999-00 and has also coached at UConn, Fairleigh Dickinson, DePaul, UMass, Creighton and Hofstra.
Sellers, a finalist for the CCSU position in 2016, will replace Donyell Marshall, who was 40-104 over five seasons.
Central interim athletic director Tom Pincince had no comment Tuesday.
Other finalists for the job included Brown associate head coach T.J. Sorrentine, Gannon coach Kelvin Jefferson, Seton Hall assistant Grant Billmeier and St. Bonaventure associate head coach Steve Curran.
The Blue Devils, a threetime Northeast Conference champion under Howie Dickenman (2000, 2002, 2007) haven’t had a winning season since 2010-11.
Sellers, the older brother of former UConn player Rod Sellers, was Central’s captain and the East Coast Conference defensive player of the year as a senior.
He played professionally for three years overseas before returning to the U.S. He is originally from Florence, S.C.
