Clingan, 3 others, make unofficial visit to UConn

- By David Borges david.borges @hearstmediact.com

“Mr. Hurley, you have a visitor. Or four.”

Live recruiting returned to college sports at the beginning of the month, and the UConn men’s basketball coaching staff was as busy as anyone on Wednesday.

Coach Dan Hurley and staff welcomed four players to campus on unofficial visits: Donovan Clingan, Taylor Bol Bowen, T.J. Power and Reid Ducharme.

Clingan may have been the biggest of all — literally and figuratively. The 7-foot-1 Bristol Central star is perhaps the Huskies’ most coveted Class of 2022 recruit. Clingan was recently named Connecticut’s Gatorade State Player of the Year, and he is among the three finalists for Gatorade’s National Player of the Year. He is expected to make an official visit to Michigan this weekend and will take an official visit to UConn July 1-2.

The main difference between an official and an unofficial visit is that the official visit is paid for by

the college, while an unofficial is paid for by the recruit or his parents.

Bol Bowen, a 6-8, Class of

2023 forward from Brewster Academy, was making his first visit to any campus. He is currently a top-25 national recruit, per

247Sports’ composite rankings.

Power is a 6-8 Class of

2023 power forward from Worcester Academy who has received offers from Providence, Boston College and Iowa, among others.

Ducharme is a Class of

2023 shooting guard and teammate of Bowen’s at

Brewster Academy. His sister, Caroline, is an incoming freshman with the UConn women’s basketball team.

The Huskies are expected to have several other unofficial visits in the coming weeks from 2023 recruits, including point guard Jayden Lemond (Friday), point guard Denver Anglin (June 17) and small forward Alex Karaban (June 21), as well as an official visit this weekend from coveted 2022 target Ty Rodgers.
