Less than an hour after UConn lost its showdown against No. 1 South Carolina in the inaugural Women’s Battle 4 Atlantis Championship, the Huskies got a recruiting win with their first commitment from the Class of 2023.

Five-star point guard Kamorea “KK” Arnold announced her verbal commitment to UConn on Monday afternoon. Arnold, from Germantown, Wisconsin, is the No. 8 overall player in her class and chose UConn over Baylor, Duke, Florida, Kentucky, Louisville, Marquette, Notre Dame, Ohio State, South Carolina, UNC and Wisconsin.

Arnold said aside from UConn being a dream school of hers since she was a kid, it was UConn’s competitive game and storied program that ultimately convinced her to commit. The current high school junior said UConn assistant coach Jamelle Elliott was the first coach of the Huskies to reach out to her.

“When I hung out with the players, I felt super comfortable around them, and like I said the coaching staff is really great. One of the greatest coaching staffs around, and of course I wanted to be a part of something great and something to build my game to the next level, beyond college basketball and also building my legacy in college basketball,” Arnold said during her announcement at Germantown High School on Monday.

As a sophomore at Germantown High School last season, the 5-foot-6 guard was named a 2020 AP honorable mention AllState selection.

She won gold with Team USA at the 2021 FIBA Americas Under-16 Championship for Women.
