CVS: Some received expired vaccine
NORWICH — Some patients who received a COVID-19 vaccine last month at a local CVS were given shots that had expired as much as a week before, according to a spokesperson for the pharmacy giant.
Tara Burke, a spokesperson for CVS, said some patients vaccinated at the Norwich pharmacy between Oct. 14 and 21 were given a vaccine that expired Oct. 13.
She said all of the patients who received the expired vaccine have been contacted.
Burke did not say how many people were affected.
“As a matter of precaution, we also offered to revaccinate them at their convenience, as the effectiveness of the vaccine they received cannot be determined,” Burke said in an email Monday.
CVS reported the error through the federal Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System, she said, “and have taken steps to help prevent this from occurring again.”
