NEWTOWN — An event borne out of social distancing and the coronavirus lockdown during last year’s holiday season is being offered again this year because of its popularity.

Families will once again be encouraged to drive through a winter wonderland laid out at the town’s Fairfield Hills campus and view a musical holiday light show from their vehicles, according to a release.

The weekend attraction, planned for 4 to 9 p.m. Dec. 10 through Dec. 12, requires reservations for a half-hour time slot.

As of Thursday, some of those slots for Dec. 10 and Dec. 11 were already sold out.

Tickets per vehicle are $20, with an $85 charge for “the VIP outdoor section up to 10 people,” which includes cookies and hot chocolate.

The second annual event, which is offered by the Newtown Chamber of Commerce and the Newtown Community Center, will feature a “winter wonderland drive-thru event with a visit from Santa himself,” where “children will be able to drop their letters off to Santa at the drive-thru North Pole express mailbox.”

“Participants are invited to join in the fun by decorating their own vehicles,” according to a release.

A 16-minute musical holiday light show will follow on Kent House, one of the relics of the former hospital campus.

To register visit the Community Center website at https://newtowncommunitycenter.org.

The holiday event is sponsored by Newtown Medi Spa, Ingersoll Auto, Danbury Savings Bank, Newtown Savings Bank, Newtown Family Dentistry, Church Hill Village, Union Savings Bank, Dental Associates, Diversified Printing, Housatonic Valley Waldorf School, St. Rose of Lima, Black Swan, Merry Hill Child Care Center, Renia Marini Coldwell Banker Realtor, and WINWomen Involved in Newtown, a release said.
