Ridgefield's Chad Krys has been traded from the Chicago Blackhawks to the Toronto Maple Leafs, the teams announced Thursday.

Krys, 23, was Chicago's secondround pick, 45th overall, in the 2016 NHL Draft. The defenseman turned pro after three years at Boston University

but has yet to make his NHL debut.

He has scored two goals and 13 assists in 64 games over parts of four seasons with the Blackhawks' AHL affiliate, the Rockford (Ill.) IceHogs. He had shoulder surgery in March, and he'd played just eight games this season.

Toronto sent veteran forward Kurtis

Gabriel to Chicago.

The Leafs' AHL affiliate, the Toronto Marlies, visit Bridgeport on Saturday night to face the Islanders at Webster Bank Arena. Krys’ younger brother, Luke, plays for Brown, which coincidentally is in New Haven on Friday to play Yale.
