Domestic violence is a pattern of coercive, controlling behaviors exhibited to maintain control over a partner in a relationship, according to researchers and advocates. Domestic violence, also called intimate partner violence, can manifest as any combination of stalking, harassment, physical violence, isolation from friends and family, extreme jealousy, preventing you from working or controlling your money and communication with others. ⏩ Showing extreme jealousy of others you spend time with, or preventing you from seeing friends and family.
⏩ Insulting your parenting or threatening to harm or take away your children or pets.
⏩ Intimidating you with weapons like guns, knives or other objects.
⏩ Destroying your belongings or your home.
⏩ Insulting, demeaning or shaming you, especially in front of other people.
⏩ Preventing you from making your own decisions, including about working or attending school.
⏩ Controlling finances in the household, including taking your money or refusing to provide money for necessary expenses.
