- By Leeanne Griffin

Shake Shack's newest Connecticut location opens Wednesday in the Danbury Fair mall, featuring the global brand's modern "roadside shack" menu of burgers, hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, crinkle-cut fries, shakes and frozen custard.

This is the state's fifth Shake Shack restaurant, joining outposts in Darien, New Haven, West Hartford and Westport.

“Our continued expansion in the tri-state area remains such an important part of our company’s growth,” said Andrew McCaughan, Shake Shack's chief development officer, in a press release.

Danbury's menu will offer classic items like the ShackBurger (cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato and special Shack Sauce); a SmokeShack burger with cherry peppers and bacon, an avocado bacon burger and a vegetarian Shroom Burger, which features a fried portobello mushroom filled with melted Muenster and cheddar cheeses. Shake Shack also sells a Chicken Shack crispy chicken breast sandwich with buttermilk herb mayo, and Chicken Bites, with honey mustard or BBQ dipping sauces.

Shake Shack is also known for its shakes and frozen custard treats, with current seasonal holiday items like a "Christmas cookie" custard topped with festive sprinkles and a Sugar Plum Fairy dessert, blending vanilla frozen custard spun and raspberry jam Linzer cookies and topping with whipped cream and white chocolate fairy bark.

Guests can expect seasonal burgers and beverages to join the menu in the new year, according to a news release.

In October, Shake Shack rolled out a limited-timeonly black truffle burger with Gruyere cheese and crispy shallots, along with parmesan garlic fries topped with black truffle sauce.

The Danbury location has indoor and outdoor dining options, with a covered patio, and also features a "Shack Track" driveup window, where guests can pre-order via Shake Shack's app and pick up their food without leaving their cars.

Since the original Shack opened in 2004 in NYC’s Madison Square Park, the company has expanded to approximately 220 domestic locations in 32 states and the District of Columbia, according to a news release.

Shake Shack also has more than 100 international restaurants, including London, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore, Philippines, Mexico, Istanbul, Dubai, Tokyo and Seoul.

The restaurant, at 7 Backus Ave., officially opens Dec. 15 at 11 a.m., and will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. On opening day, Shake Shack will donate $1 from every sandwich sold to the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, the nonprofit organization founded by Paul Newman to serve seriously ill children and their families.
