Helen Louise Hoffman Durgy

WATERTOWN- Helen Louise Hoffman Durgy, born July 3, 1930 to Sidney and Helen Clark Hoffman, left us to join her Holy Father on Dec. 12, 2021 at the age of 91. Helen battled Alzheimer’s Disease for many years in the loving care of her daughters Mary and Kathy.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 49 years, Robert J. Durgy, Sr. and her two dearly loved sisters, Ann Tedrick of Bethel, CT and Mary Sue Menton of Langdon, NH.

Helen and Bob are survived by Kathleen DurgyConcepcion, of Watertown, CT, her son-in law, Rafael Concepcion of Watertown, CT, Susan Durgy and her husband, Charles Barilla, of Mars Hill, NC, Mary Johnn of Stamford, CT, and Robert Durgy, Jr. and his wife, Laura Anderson, of Chaplin, CT.

“Grammie” is also survived by her cherished grandsons Brian Johnn, Kevin Johnn, Steven Johnn and his wife Michelle, Rafael Concepcion, Adam Concepcion and Colin Durgy, and great-grandson Judah Johnn, and many cousins, nieces and a nephew.

Helen graduated as a RN from the Danbury Hospital School of Nursing, after which she worked for a time as an OR Nurse, then for an oral surgeon. For seventeen years prior to retiring, Helen cared for developmentally disabled adults.

One of Helen’s greatest delights was puttering in her flower gardens in her yard on Juniper Ridge, second only to family get togethers. She loved listening to and sharing stories about the generations of loved ones, including attending a one-room school house and growing up on Peet Farm in South Kent. Laughter, great food and reconnecting with extended family at Ann and Bob’s house on Sunset Hill or reunions at Mary Sue and John’s Great Brook Farm were a great joy in her life.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. John the Evangelist Church at 574 Main Street, Watertown, CT at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 16.
