RIDGEFIELD — Starting Thursday, the town will provide rapid testing at Yanity Gym amid soaring COVID rates.

The site will be open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. by appointment only. Visitors will check in at tents in the parking lot, and swabbing will occur in the area near the skate park.

Visitors can make appointments online through Docs Medical Group, and sign-ups will be allowed up to 24 hours in advance, according to a release. Visitors must arrive at their appointed time slot with photo identification and a medical insurance card, if available.

Those wishing to make an appointment are advised to check the sign-up page or the town website for date and time adjustments, which may happen due to staffing, the release read.

On Tuesday, Ridgefield’s positivity rate was 20 percent.

Despite high vaccination levels, the town’s current case rate is much higher than last year because of the dominance of the omicron variant, according to an analysis from data scientist Rick Lawrence, who sits on the town’s COVID-19 task force.
