Elizabeth Jennie Riley, 91, of Daniel Island, South Carolina, formerly of New Milford, Connecticu­t, entered into eternal rest on Friday, January 7, 2022. A graveside service will be held at a later date in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, New Milford, where Mrs. Riley will be laid to rest next to her late husband, Major General Herbert J. Riley. Arrangemen­ts by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel.

Betty was born January 18, 1930 in West Warwick, Rhode Island, daughter of the late Axelrod Johnson and Jennie Chipley Johnson. She married her high school sweetheart, Herb, on May 12,1951. She worked after High School as a writer for the local newspaper and continued to freelance write throughout her life. She published stories in other local papers and several periodical­s and won numerous writing contests. She served as the School Manager for Center School in Brookfield, CT for 23 years. When Herb became the Commanding General of the 94th Arcom throughout New England Betty served the role of First Lady at his side for numerous public functions until retirement. She enjoyed golf, traveling and being a loving grandparen­t.

She is survived by her sons, Wayne and his wife Leslie of Salisbury, CT, and Bryan and his wife Tammy of Mt. Pleasant, SC; seven grandchild­ren, Nicholas Riley, Jacqueline Albir, Wesley Riley, Jeremy Riley, Rosabelle Runza, Heather Murphy and Kayla Stone and five great-grandchild­ren.
