-

Abigail “Abby” Olsen, 63, of Bethel, CT, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on January 10th, 2022.

Abby was born on March 25th, 1958 to Dale and Norma Sisson in Stamford, CT. After graduating from Westhill High School in 1976, she went on to study at Ohio Wesleyan University and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. She continued her love for school and earned her Masters of Science and Education later as she advanced in her teaching career.

After graduating, she moved back to Stamford, CT and taught kindergarten igniting her lifelong passion for education. Known as Ms. Devaney to so many, she continued her teaching career at Bethel Middle School. She then went on to finish her career at Newtown Middle School as Mrs. Olsen and proudly retired in 2021 ending her 30 year education career. Abby’s talent and passion for teaching were immeasurable. She impacted thousands of lives and young minds. She was especially proud to be a part of the Newtown community after the Sandy Hook tragedy in 2012.

Abby was a fiercely dedicated mother to her three children and they were her proudest accomplishment. Family came first and was above all else, a value she instilled in all of those around her. Her absence will be impossible to fill.

Abby met her wonderful husband Norm in 2000 and married in 2008. From this union, she was gifted with two stepsons. She loved to spend time with countless family and friends. She treasured her summers in Northport, Michigan with her parents, siblings, and extended family. She loved the beach, a great dance party, and boating out on the water. Her warmth, humor, and kindness has left a mark on each person she met. We will miss her greatly.

Abby was preceded in death by her father and mother, and stepson, Worth Olsen. She is survived by her husband Norman Olsen of Bethel, CT, her three children Megan Devaney of Norwalk, CT, Micaela O’Halloran (Tim O’Halloran) of Chicago, IL, Kyle Devaney of Bethel, CT, stepson Carey Olsen ( Jackie Bonadio,) and Apria Bonadio of New Fairfield, CT. Her two sisters, Dale Lersch and Roxana Wieland, and one brother, Rufus Sisson, as well as multiple cousins, nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.
