Robert V. Macklin

-

On the snowy morning of January 7, 2022, Bob passed peacefully into his next life. We lost a good man, excellent husband and great father.

Robert V. Macklin was born July 11, 1947 to the late Vincent and Joan (Kelley) Macklin in Salina, Kansas. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Villanova University and a Master of Science degree in administration from WSCU. In 1974 he heard of a de novo bank being formed in Ridgefield. Bob was with the Village Bank & Trust Co. for the next 25 years; the last nine as a president and CEO. In 1999, Village was acquired by Webster Financial and he was fortunate to immediately move to The Milford Bank as its president and CEO. Bob retired from The Milford Bank in 2015 and relocated to New Milford, CT. He thoroughly enjoyed his retirement years.

He was married to Nancy for 42 years. Together they traveled the U.S. and Europe, loved spending time for 7 years at their NYC apartment and for the last 10 years enjoyed 6 months each year at their Red Cedar Lake cottage. They formed lasting friendships with many lake folks. Let it be known that Bob was not a great cornhole player. Bob was the treasurer for the Red Cedar Lake Property Owners Association.

The highlight of Bob’s life was the birth of his beloved daughter, Courtney. They enjoyed the kind of relationship every daughter dreams of. Nancy and Bob experienced many behind the scenes tours of the Buffalo Zoo, WDW Animal Kingdom and all the WDW parks thanks to Courtney’s employment.

Bob was very active in the Milford Community and enjoyed being a member of the Milford Rotary Club. He and Nancy had many good times at the Rotary Fundraisers. He served on several boards in Milford. Following retirement Nancy and Bob relocated to New Milford where they spent good times with longtime friends. He acquired new friends upon joining the New Milford Rotary Club. Bob served on the Board of Directors at Carlson’s Ridge for several years. For many years Bob was an active member of the New Fairfield Congregational Church acting as moderator, capital campaign manager, Choir member with Courtney and always helping with the production of the summer play at the church.

Bob and Nancy were also members of the First Church in Milford for 10 years.

Mr. Bob, as he was affectionately called by some, was a voracious reader, completed the NY Times crossword daily, enjoyed boating at the lake, skiing in younger days, and watched Jeopardy nightly with his wife. Most of all Bob was an avid Villanova Basketball fan never willing to miss a game.

As well as Nancy and Courtney, Bob leaves behind many dear friends, his brother-in-law, Richard Espitee Jr., sister-in-law, Alice Miller and his nephews Richard Espitee III, and Kevin Espitee all of New Milford, his sister Jean and her husband Steve Bell of Virginia.

His Beagles, Daisy and Molly, have missed him the last couple months.

A memorial service will be held at the New Fairfield Congregational Church, 20 Gillotti Rd. on Saturday January 22, at 12 p.m. Mask are required for all in attendance. For those unable to attend, the service will also be shared via zoom. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the New Fairfield Congregational Church Book of Remembrance.

Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge St., New Milford, CT has been entrusted to care for Bob and his family.
