The Best Performance award goes to: Dean Murray Trevisani
RIDGEFIELD — Actor Dean Murray Trevisani considered it a “dream come true” when he was nominated for BroadwayWorld’s 2021 Best Performance in an OffBroadway Play.
So when he opened an email on Monday from BroadwayWorld, it was one of the most exciting moments in the 14-year-old’s early acting career.
He won.
“I couldn’t believe it when I saw the email, I was real happy and I gave my mom (Julie) a big hug,” said Trevisani, a Ridgefield High freshman who was nominated for his performance as Otto in “The Last Boy,” a play based on events that occurred during the Holocaust. “This award was very meaningful because I played a very complex role.
“To be a part of a play involving a serious subject like the Holocaust, this being my first time acting in New York City, and to be recognized with a best performance award, it’s just a surprise and so amazing.”
“The Last Boy” was recognized by BroadwayWorld, one of the top media outlets in the entertainment industry, with three other Off Broadway awards — Best Production of a Play, Best New Play and Steven Fisher won for Best Direction in a Play.
“I’m astonished at what my 14-year-old boy has been able to do,” Julie Trevisani said. “He has a big LA agent (Media Artists Group), he’s working, and on his first acting part in New York he got recognized as the best performance.
“He is always working on his craft, he does two or three auditions a week after school and he’s able to go to school and do his homework. I am so proud of him.”
Due to COVID-19, auditions are done by video, which Trevisani produces in his home studio. When it comes to juggling everything, Dean said, “I just work hard and get it all done.”
Daniel C. Levine, artistic director of A Contemporary Theater of Connecticut in Ridgefield, was thrilled to hear of Trevisani’s news. Trevisani got his acting start at ACT.
“I’m so excited to hear that Dean’s won the BroadwayWorld award for Best Actor in an OffBroadway show,” Levine said. “Dean is such a gifted actor; he’s skilled beyond his years. I am confident this wonderful recognition is the first of many awards and achievements for him in what will be an incredible career in the theater.”
He has several potential projects he can’t talk about, but next up is an Off-Broadway benefit performance of “The Last Boy” on April 27.
“I’m excited about my future. This award is great to have on my resume,” Dean Murray Trevisani said. “This award helps get me closer to my goal of a television and film career. I’ve learned a lot about acting and the business overall doing a play Off-Broadway. Winning this award has also contributed to that learning process.
“I’ve worked hard to get where I am. But I have to thank my mom, my agent Media Artist Group, and my acting coach Colleen Fitzpatrick. They have been a big part of my success.
“Right now my focus is working on improving my acting, working on auditions, the benefit performance of ‘Last Boy’ and doing well at school.”
