Quinnipiac men move to No. 1

The Quinnipiac men’s hockey team moved up to No. 1 in both the DCU/ USCHO.com and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine national polls Monday.

Quinnipiac, which is ranked No. 1 for the first time since the 2015-16 season, are 16-1-3, 7-0-1 in ECACHockey. The Bobcats extended their unbeaten streak to 15 games with wins over No. 18 Harvard (3-0) and Dartmouth (3-1) this weekend. They are 13-0-2 in their present streak, winning their past seven games.

The Bobcats play host to Princeton Tuesday at 7 p.m. (ESPN+).

Goaltender­s Yaniv Perets and Dylan St. Cyr combined to allow just one goal over the weekend, lowering the team's goals against average to 1.05. Senior defenseman Zach Metsa is ranked in the top 15 nationally in assists per game (4th among all defensemen), while senior captain Wyatt Bongiovann­i and sophomore Ty Smilanic both sit inside the top 30 in goals per game.

As a team, the Bobcats lead the nation in scoring defense, penalty kill percentage, and winning percentage, while sitting second in scoring margin and face-off win percentage.

Quinnipiac is tied for fourth in the PairWise Rankings with St. Cloud State behind Minnesota State, Michigan and Denver. UConn is 24th and Sacred Heart 38th. The PairWise Ranking is a system which attempts to mimic the method used by the NCAA Selection Committee to determine participan­ts for the NCAA Division I men's hockey tournament.

UConn received nine votes in the USCHO men’s poll.

The Quinnipiac women’s hockey team (15-3-3) is ranked fourth in the USCHO poll. Yale (11-4-1) is 10th and UConn (17-5-2) received six votes, one place out of the top 10.
