Danbury COVID-19 testing site moved amid high demand

- By Dan Brechlin

Danbury is moving its COVID-19 testing location to the Pat Waldron Veteran Hall site.

The change, announced Monday, comes with some updated times for COVID testing, as well.

Testing will now take place daily at the hall, located at 23 Memorial Drive. Testing will run from 3 to 7 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekends.

City officials will only have PCR testing available and results will be emailed at a later date to those being tested. The site is first-come, first-served with a maximum of 700 tests available each day. Appointments are not needed.

The new site was a needed change due to the demand in testing. The previous site, on Memorial Drive, caused traffic problems and could not always fit the cars that arrived. Oftentimes, cars lined up hours before testing was opened.

Sema4, a Stamford-based company, will continue to operate the regional testing site until its contract with the state lapses. City

officials have been in contact with state leaders to ensure a COVID testing site continues to run in the area after the contract expires.

The number of COVID cases in the state have remained high in recent months. The state recorded a positivity rate over 19 percent Friday with 1,895 total hospitalized patients due to COVID.
