- By Dan Brechlin

A new grocery store has opened its doors in Bethel.

La Placita Bethel Marke t, at 289 Greenwood Ave., opened last week after more than a year of planning and renovations.

The 14,000-square-foot space was occupied by Caraluzzi’s Wine & Spirits, which moved to a newly constructed building adjacent to Caraluzzi’s Bethel Market, also on Greenwood Avenue.

La Placita also has a location in New Rochelle, N.Y., carrying everything from fresh meat to frozen foods, a full deli, bakery and more. Some of the

store’s foods originate from countries including Peru, Colombia, Guatemala, Argentina and Ecuador.

The story is open seven-days-a-week from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., according to a Facebook post announcing its opening.

We would like to thank everyone involved throughout this journey & we hope to create a long lasting relationship with the town of Bethel & everyone who walks through our doors,” the post read.
